Inspiring Learning in North Wolverhampton

The Predecessor Schools

Over the last eighteen months The Northicote School and Pendeford Business and Enterprise College have worked closely together in a joint federation of schools in preparation for the opening of the North Wolverhampton Academy in September 2010. A Joint Committee of Governors, eight from each school, meets on a regular basis supported by officers from Wolverhampton City Council. The remit of the Joint Governors’ Committee has been to share the good teaching and learning practice that exists in each school and monitor the development of the plans for the North Wolverhampton Academy. Both schools achieved their best examination results in 2009 and governors are confident that the North Wolverhampton Academy will be a school of which all concerned can be proud.

“Together anything is possible” is how Kevin Morgan, Headteacher, describes Pendeford’s success.  We have so much to be proud of including fast improving examination success and a wide range of opportunities in a caring, supportive environment. Small class sizes allow tutors to know each student as an individual and build strong relationships between staff, students and parents. Staff are committed to achieving the best for every child.

Pendeford is now in the top five percent of schools for the progress of its students.  We are delighted to have exceeded the Government floor target, with 32 percent of students achieving five or more A* to C with English and Mathematics grades.  The college is confident that it will improve these GCSE measures even further. The Key Stage 5 results continue to improve, reflected in the performance of post-16 students at A level.  The college gained a ‘good’ status from the whole college OFSTED inspection in May 2008, which was followed by equally positive results when the religious studies Ofsted inspector visited in July this year. The college drew praise from the quality of teaching which ensures that all students make good progress throughout their time here.

Pendeford’s strong student support structure underpins a modern curriculum that inspires and challenges all students and prepares them for their future.  As a Specialist College we place enterprise at the centre of our vision.  We are already working in partnership with The Northicote School, Wolverhampton College and Wolverhampton University.

At Pendeford Business and Enterprise College every student is important, everyone matters and everyone has a voice.  As one parent commented, ‘This is a school where the phrase “Every Child Matters” is important and acted upon without hesitation.’  Working together as a learning community we believe that every student can achieve their full potential and we strive to find the talent that lies within every individual.

The Northicote School

“Outstanding” is the way the chief ICT inspector described many of the features of the Northicote School in the July 2009 ICT Inspection, echoing the findings of the previous inspections in 2006 and 2007.

This yet again gives the school a rubber stamp of approval, and reassures  staff and students alike that the efforts are not only recognised but also continue to move the school forward and upward in attainment and achievement.

This year’s examination success is a true testament to the “Outstanding” curriculum and dedication from all concerned.  The results have far exceeded targets set at the school, local and national level, and demonstrate the continuing success and improvement of the school. 99% of year 11 achieved examination success with over 70% achieving 5 Grade A*-Cs, and 37% achieved this with A*-C grades in Maths and English.  In addition to this many students in Year 10 have already achieved GCSE passes in Maths, Science Modules and ICT.

Leading directly from their examination success at A-Level, a record number of students gained University degree course placements and The Northicote School is proud of all those students who applied to an university and gained a valuable place.

In conjunction with Pendeford Business and Enterprise College’s strong GCSE performance and excellent AS and A Level results, The Northicote School and Pendeford Business and Enterprise College remain in an excellent position to take their combined success and achievements’ into the academy and build upon these for the future.
