The lead sponsor of the Academy is The City of Wolverhampton College who, with co-sponsors The University of Wolverhampton and Wolverhampton City Council, form The City of Wolverhampton Academy Trust. The Trust was formally set up to run the South Wolverhampton and Bilston Academy which opened in September 2009 and, if the processes are approved, will run the proposed North Wolverhampton Academy.
Lead Sponsor - City of Wolverhampton College
The City of Wolverhampton College is a large further education college which was formed from the merger of two colleges in 1999. It provides courses in most subject areas, apprenticeships, 14-16 flexibilities and full and part-time courses for 16-18 year olds and adults. Learner numbers are highest in health, public services and care, and preparation for life and work. Qualification levels range from pre-entry to foundation degree. In December 2007 the College was judged by Ofsted to be good overall, with its approach to social and educational inclusion rated as outstanding.
Co-Sponsor – The University of Wolverhampton
The University of Wolverhampton comprises nine Academic schools which cover all of the major subject areas and offers degree courses and other qualifications to over 24,000 students. Of particular note for this Academy submission is the performance of the School of Education which is rated in the highest category by external inspectors for both its Primary and Secondary provision. This places it within the top five ranked providers nationally. Alongside this, the work of the Education Partnerships team is considered as a 'beacon of good practice' by Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

Wolverhampton City Council has a long and successful history of partnership and collaboration rooted in shared vision, a desire for continual improvement and a determination to work together to provide the best possible outcomes for our children and young people.
Three years ago our secondary schools engaged with the NCSL BSF pilot programme and since then many have experienced, at first hand, models of good practice across the country and the world.
As a Council we have devoted significant effort in our preparation particularly in respect of programme management, 14-19 developments and e-learning. The council currently holds Beacon Status for its 14-19 work and is joint winners of the BECTA award for support to schools.
