Inspiring Learning in North Wolverhampton

Admissions

Admission Numbers

The proposed Academy will provide 210 places to Year 7 pupils in September 2010.  The proposed Academy will provide a total of 1050 places for pupils between 11 and 16, with a further 150 in the sixth form. The planned admission numbers accommodate the anticipated intake from both predecessor schools, and align with Wolverhampton City Councils plans for school places in the area.

September 2010 Admissions

All existing pupils within the predecessor schools will be entitled to transfer to the Academy.  For entry in September 2010 parents can apply to either or both The Northicote School and Pendeford Business and Enterprise College.  A preferred first choice must be nominated, in line with Local Authority procedures.  Subject to the legal creation of the Academy in 2010, all pupils who have been offered and have accepted a place at one of these schools will transfer to the Academy in September 2010.

Admissions Policy

The Academy will adopt the same admission arrangements as those operated by Wolverhampton Local Authority.  In accordance with these arrangements, after the admission of pupils with Statements of Special Educational Needs, if the Academy is oversubscribed the following criteria will be applied in order to allocate places:

  • Criterion 1: Looked after children (as defined by Section 22 of the Children Act 1989)
  • Criterion 2: Medical/Social
  • Criterion 3: Siblings
  • Criterion 4: Distance

Appeals

Parents will have the right of appeal to an independent panel.

Waiting lists

Where more applications are received than there are places available, a waiting list will operate.  Following an unsuccessful application, it is open to parents to ask for their child’s name to be placed on the waiting list.

Children’s position on the waiting list and the allocation of places will be determined solely in accordance with the above oversubscription criteria.

The admissions of pupils with SEN Statements

The Academy Trust shall ensure that pupils with SEN are admitted on an equal basis with others in accordance with its admissions policy.  The proposed academy will continue this work and will include children with Special Educational Needs throughout the curriculum.

In line with Wolverhampton’s arrangements for the admission of pupils with SEN statements, where the Academy has been named on the pupil’s Statement of Special Educational Needs, placements will be determined through the procedures for reviewing and amending the Statement in consultation with parents/carers.
